When you think of the Ardennes, you quickly think of outdoor activities as mountain biking, rafting and chilling with friends in the beautiful countryside. But the Ardennes are in northern Europe so there is also a good chance that it will rain one day. Don’t panic, there are plenty of other fun things to do in the Ardennes!

1. Cave tour

Have you come to the Ardennes to do something sporty? Then a cave tour is a perfect solution when it rains! Dressed in overalls and helmet, you start a sporty climb through the darkness. Descend abseiling down and discover what surprises the underground cave system has in store for you. And the best part? You won’t feel the rain at all!

2. Beer tasting

As in the rest of Belgium, delicious beers are brewed in the Ardennes. You can visit many of these breweries. You will often get a small guided tour of the brewing process after which you will taste the specialities of the house. Not all breweries are open on weekdays, so it is advisable to book in advance. Check our list of beer breweries.

3. Museums

There are also plenty of great museums in the Ardennes. For children Riveo is very nice. Here you will find a large aquarium where you can have a good look at the animals from the river and there is always a fun exhibition. You can also play mini-golf. Are you more into history? Then be sure to visit Batarden, the museum of the Battle of the Bulge.

4. Swimming/cinema

It may be a bit of a pickle but a visit to a swimming pool or cinema are also always nice alternatives when it rains!
